The City of Northville website was recently ranked the second best city website in the state of Michigan.  cyber-state.org ranked the City's website favorable among the much larger cities throughout Michigan.  You can read more about the cyber-state.org study by clicking here.

The City contracted with Municipal Web Services to develop the site in February of 2002 and the site was complete around August of that year.  "We received proposals from over 20 firms and interviewed a half dozen of them before selecting Municipal Web Service," said Nickie Bateson, the City's Finance Director and Assistant City Manager.  "We felt that MWS had the best design expertise and was the most experience at working with local government."

The site has a number of advanced features including

Tax and Assessing Lookup system - residents and others can get up-to-the-minute information on assessment information and property taxes for both residential and commercial property.  The tax data includes a breakdown on the various components of the millage, including links to those organization's websites.

Live Help - Visitors to the site can get live, chat-based help on website content and services.  This live help is manned by the same people who built the site.  These experts are able to assist users in finding information quickly and teaching them to use assistance such as the search engine and site map.

List Serve - Constituents can subscribe to any of four mailing lists to get periodic updates on city news, parks and recreation happenings, downtown events, and employment opportunities.

Fill-in-able forms - Most of the PDF forms on the website can be filled in using the PDF reader, then printed for submission to the City.  This ensures that submitted forms are readable and accurate.  Most forms also have annotations so that users have instructions on where to mail the form.

Up-to-Date Calendar of Events - This one-stop location for all meetings, events and celebrations is perfect for those looking for something to do in Northville. 

League Standings - The numerous recreation league standings are updated frequently and are one of the most frequently visited areas of the site.

Surplus Equipment Auctions - What a great way to utilize the power of the internet - and keep the basement storage room from overflowing.  We've integrated BidCorps' auction service into the City's website.

Accessible - The City's website goes beyond section 508 compliance to make the site usable by those with sight and other disabilities.

The site is kept up to date through an active partnership between the City's staff and our web stewards.
